On June 18, International Sushi Day is celebrated , the quintessential Japanese food that is most successful in Japan and beyond its borders. For this reason, in Ahora o Nunca, the space on La 1 presented by Mónica López, they have made a small guide to know what to order and how to behave at a real Japanese lunch or dinner sushi.
Difference well between different pieces of sushi
Coming to a Japanese and not knowing what you are ordering due to the complexity of the names is more common than you might think. But, with this guide your problems are over. Next, we differentiate the different most common pieces of sushi so that you do not get “nigiri” for “maki”:
One of the most famous pieces is the nigiri . These are the mythical rice balls with a piece of fish or shellfish on top (salmon, tuna, butterfish…).
There is also the maki , which means “wrapped”, and they are the pieces that usually have a center of fish or shellfish, surrounded by rice and all wrapped in nori seaweed.
On the other hand, we find the uramaki , which would be like the maki, but in reverse. The rice wraps the nori seaweed that has the piece of fish inside. And it is that “ura” means “upside down”.
Continuing with the makis, there is also the futomaki , which is like the maki but bigger and with more ingredients.
Another quite characteristic piece is the temaki , some nori seaweed cones filled with rice and more ingredients.
But not all are pieces of sushi with rice, there is also sashimi , which are pieces of raw fish cut into small thin “fillets” that are eaten alone, without accompaniment.
