Marijuana is one of the most appreciated plants in the world thanks to its therapeutic and relaxing properties. However, many people are not willing to consume it by combustion, either because they are not smokers or because they are looking for healthier methods dispensary recreational. Precisely for this reason, over the years it has become increasingly common to prepare delicious recipes, both sweet and savory, based on this ingredient . Here’s how to cook marijuana the easiest and safest way right in your kitchen.
Is marijuana edible?
When we talk about marijuana, it is important to never forget that, beyond its famous psychoactive effects, it is still an aromatic plant like the others. Therefore, it is possible to add fresh marijuana flowers, commonly called ‘buds’, to a dish. If you need to buy your favorite marijuana seed you can do so in one of the best grow shops in Spain.
Contrary to what many think, these dried flowers in their natural state contain few cannabinoids, the elements responsible for the famous psychoactive effects . At the time of harvesting the flowers, in fact, the two main cannabinoids, CBD and THC , are in their non-psychoactive acid state: CBDA and THCA . These are transformed into their corresponding psychoactive forms THC and CBD after exposure to a heat source.
In order to ensure the psychoactivity of our flowers, it is important to follow two important phases that precede any cannabis-based recipe: decarboxylation and dissolution of cannabinoids in an animal or vegetable fat.
What is decarboxylation?
The essential prior stage of any cannabis recipe is, without a doubt, decarboxylation , since it ensures the transformation of cannabinoids from the acidic state to the psychoactive forms of THC and CBD.
The essential element for decarboxylation is to expose the flowers to a heat source for a certain time. During this process the temperature must be kept under control. It is not recommended to exceed 104°C to avoid the risk of deteriorating the cannabinoids, which could happen above 148°C. As for time, decarboxylation will begin after exceeding 45 minutes.
This process can be applied in different ways: from the simple oven to the microwave or even a bain-marie. Decarboxylation in the oven is the most popular, for which it will only be necessary to bake the crushed flowers supported on a tray with baking paper.
Marijuana is fat soluble
The second step prior to the cannabis recipe is the dissolution of the cannabinoids in an animal or vegetable fat. The choice of cannabutter or oil for cannabis recipes is not at all accidental. The cannabinoids present in marijuana are fat-soluble , that is, they can only dissolve in contact with fats.
Another characteristic of these compounds is that they are hydrophobic, that is, impossible to dissolve in water. That is why it will be possible, if you wish to add this step, to rinse the marijuana flowers before beginning the decarboxylation.
Finally, it is important to remember that it will be necessary only after decarboxylation to prepare a mixture of cannabis butter or oil. In this way, vegetable or animal fats will transport our psychoactive cannabinoids from the flowers to the dough of our dessert.
